India’s justice system faces a major challenge with over 51 million pending court cases. This immense backlog, with some cases languishing for over 30 years, creates a situation of “justice delayed, justice denied.” The vast majority of these cases clog lower courts, hindering access to timely resolution. This not only burdens individuals but also weakens the rule of law in the country.

There are also concerns about access to justice, particularly for those in poverty who may struggle to afford legal representation. However, India’s Supreme Court plays a vital role in upholding the Constitution and enacting legal reforms.
